Bangkok
You can take a taxi directly outside the international terminal at Don
Muang Airport. There is a controlled taxi stand with attendants who
speak many languages and will give you the approx. cost to your hotel
or guesthouse in Bangkok. There are also kiosks and direct phone lines
to many hotels in the city. Bangkok is a big and vibrant city, so we
suggest doing a little research on where you would like to go. We suggest Silom, Sukhumvit, Khao San Road areas. To
get back to the airport or train station simply hire any taxi. Bangkok
traffic can be horrendous so allow yourself plenty of time. There are
also airport buses in various areas.Book
a flight or a train ticket on-line or at one of the many travel agents
in and around Bangkok.

The nearest town to us with an airport as well
as a train station is Hat Yai. Taxis are one of the more conventional means of travel around Thailand
cities. Tuk-tuks can be fun and adventurous and a great way to see the
sights. Motorcycle taxis are the quickest, cheapest and craziest way
to travel.
Hat Yai is the
closest city to us and where you will need to get a taxi/mini-bus to
Pak Barra where you will catch the boat to Koh Lipe.
Hat
Yai
There are many hotels a market and restaurants. If you would rather
not stay the night in Hat Yai, you should plan your arrival into Hat
Yai as early in the morning as possible in order to catch a Taxi or
mini-bus to Pak Barra.
You can
hire a private taxi for about 800-1500 baht either from the airport
or from the PakBara Travel.
Wait to buy
ferry tickets from the pier in Pak Barra rather than from touts in Hat Yai or from the mini-bus operator. The
taxi journey is about 2 1⁄2 hours, by mini-bus it's slightly longer. It
should cost about 200 baht by taxi to get to HatYai city center
should you like to stay there. HatYai has great markets, shopping,
hospital, internet, and some fantastic restaurants, like The
Swan.
There is plenty of accommodation.
We recommend staying at the King's
Hotel.

Pak
Barra
Pak Barra town has limited guesthouses and very few
restaurants or bars, so if you do not wish to stay there you should plan
so that your taxi arrives with plenty of time to spare for the boats.
The boats are between 10am and 2pm.

A ferry schedule can be found at www.kohlipe.net
Pak
Barra is best reached by mini-bus from HatYai though you could come
via Trang if traveling from Phuket. Both have airports and a train
station from Bangkok.
Take a ferry to Koh
Lipe. We advise you to avoid the touts at the piers, and ones that come
to your car.
Best to buy your tickets from Pak Bara Travel Their 2 offices are about 100m from the boat loading area.
Be prepared to wait for the boat to fill up before departure. Ferry schedules are subject to change, so please keep checking
for updates to the schedule.
NEW:
There is sometimes a charge
to get into the boat loading area. It is a park fee that varies on the whims of the park department. You should not have to pay this fee if you are only going to Lipe.
Also, if you are wanting to spend time at Koh Tarutao
island itself, be prepared to pay the 400baht entrance fee for foreigners.
Thai nationals pay 80baht.

IMPORTANT:
The
Chao Lay community on Koh Lipe are independent from the
ferry operators. Since there is no pier on Koh Lipe you will have to pay
them a small fee of usually around 50baht for them to ferry you in their
Longtail boats to the island. Most Resorts have private drivers so look
for their awnings on the boats or ask to be taken to your Resort or nearest beach.
